Diphelleia grayi is a small herb in the family Berberidaceae, which can be found in only three parts of the world.

The plant grows on moist, wooded mountainsides in colder regions of Japan, China and the Appalachian Mountains in the United States.

It has white petals that turn translucent with rain. When dry, they revert to white. Hence the name Skeleton Flower. The flower tissues are so delicate that moisture causes the effect.
