വരണ്ട പാറപ്പുറങ്ങളിൽപടർന്നു വളരുന്ന ഈ സസ്യം സൂര്യകാന്തിയുടെയും, പൂവാങ്കുറുന്നലിന്റെയും കുടുംബത്തിൽ പെടുന്നു.

മെഴുകിനാൽ ആവരണം ചെയ്ത മാംസളമായ ഇലകൾക്ക് കണ്ണീർത്തുള്ളികളുടെ രൂപമാണ്. വേനൽക്കാലമാകുമ്പോഴേക്കും നീളത്തിലുള്ള തണ്ടുകളിൽ രൂപപ്പെട്ടു വരുന്ന കൊച്ചു മഞ്ഞപ്പൂക്കുലകൾ മനോഹരമായ കാഴ്ചയാണ്.

പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ഒരു ഉദ്യാന സസ്യം കൂടിയാണിത്.

Curio citriformis, is a small trailing succulent plant in the sunflower family native to South Africa that grows in rocky outcrops in clay soils.

It is a scrambling plant with perpendicular-oriented, small tear drop-shaped leaves, hence the name ‘String of tears’. The leaves have translucent longitudinal stripes and covered with a waxy coating.

The flower heads are creamy yellow which appear during late summer on tall wiry stalks. The plants are drought tolerant and also mildly toxic causing vomiting or diarrhea, if ingested.
