തെക്കുകിഴക്കേഷ്യൻ രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്ന മാംസളമായ ഒരു വള്ളിച്ചെടി ആണിത്. നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടിലെ എരുക്കിന്റെയും, നന്നാറി (നറുനീണ്ടി) യുടെയും കുടുംബക്കാരി.

ഹൃദയാകൃതിയിലുള്ള മാംസളമായ ഇലകൾ ആണ് ഇതിന്റെ സവിശേഷത. മുറിച്ചെടുത്ത ഇലകൾക്ക് പെട്ടെന്ന് വേരുപിടിക്കും എന്നതിനാൽ അവ ഓരോന്നായി നട്ടു വിപണനം ചെയ്യുകയാണ് പതിവ്. യൂറോപ്പിൽ ഇതിനെ ‘വാലന്റൈൻസ് ഹാർട്ട്‌, വാലന്റൈൻസ് ഹോയ’ എന്നൊക്കെയാണ് വിളിക്കുന്നത്. ഭാഗ്യ ഹൃദയം (Lucky Heart) എന്ന് മറ്റൊരു പേരും ഉണ്ട്.

ഇവയുടെ തൂങ്ങിക്കിടക്കുന്ന പൂക്കുലകളിൽ ഏതാണ്ട് 25 ഓളം വെളുത്ത് മനോഹരങ്ങളായ പൂക്കളാണുണ്ടാകുന്നത്. അപ്പൂപ്പൻതാടി പോലെ കാറ്റത്തു പാറുന്ന വിത്തുകൾ മുളച്ചാണ് ഇവയുടെ യഥാർത്ഥ രീതിയിലുള്ള പ്രജനനം എന്നു കൂടി മനസ്സിലാക്കൂ..

Hoya kerrii is a climbing plant that can grow up to 4 meters high, which is native to the south-east of Asia. Its origin area is South China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Java.

As the thick leaves are heart-shaped, the plant is sometimes named “Lucky-heart“. In Europe, it is sold for Saint Valentine’s Day, hence called as Valentine Hoya.

Adult plants show inflorescences of 5 cm diameter and up to 25 flowers. It has become an increasingly popular house plant in recent years and is stored as a single leaf cutting which readily roots, but cannot grow into a complete plant. The plant is propagated by the hairy seeds formed in the follicles.
