Ceropegia stapeliiformis (Apocynaceae)

വളഞ്ഞുപുളഞ്ഞു കിടന്ന് പാമ്പ് വാപൊളിച്ചു നിൽക്കുന്നത് പോലൊരു പുഷ്പമുണ്ട്. നമുക്കൊന്ന് പരിചയപ്പെടാം.

ദക്ഷിണാഫ്രിക്കയിലാണ് മാംസളമായ കാണ്ഡത്തോട് കൂടിയ ഈ വള്ളിച്ചെടി വളരുന്നത്. ഇലകൾ വളരെ ചെറുതും എളുപ്പം പൊഴിഞ്ഞു പോകുന്നതുമാണ്.

ചോർപ്പിന്റെ (funnel) ആകൃതിയുള്ള ഇവയുടെ പച്ചയും വെള്ളയും നിറമുള്ള പൂക്കളുടെ അരികുകൾക്ക് മെറൂൺ നിറമാണ്. ഇതളുകളുടെ രോമാവൃതങ്ങളായ അറ്റങ്ങൾ വിടർന്നു അൽപ്പം പുറകോട്ടു വളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു. വള്ളിപോലെ പടർന്നു കിടക്കുന്ന സ്വഭാവവും, പൂക്കളുടെ ഈ രൂപവും കാരണം വാപൊളിച്ച് നിൽക്കുന്ന ഒരു പാമ്പിന്റെ പ്രതീതി ജനിപ്പിക്കുന്നു..

ഒരു ഉദ്യാനസസ്യമായ ഈ ചെടി കമ്പുകുഴിച്ചിട്ടും, വിത്തു മുഖേനയും വളർത്തിയെടുക്കാം കേട്ടോ..

Ceropegia stapeliiformis is a  prostrate, creeping or climbing succulent creeper, native to South Africa and Swaziland. Common names include Serpent Ceropegia, Snake creeper.

The leaves are minute and rudimentary, soon falling off the stems. Out of the two subspecies, stapeliiformis and serpentina, the flowers of the latter shows more resemblance of a snake mouth.

The  greenish white flowers which have a distinctive funnel-shape is spotted or streaked with maroon. The petals surrounding the mouth are free-spreading, reflexed and fringed with hairs, which resembles a snake mouth. This ornamental plant is propagated by cuttings or seeds.
