Wilsonara – Firecat ‘Harmony’ (Orchidaceae)

ജപ്പാനിലെ പരമ്പരാഗത വസ്ത്രമായ കിമോണ ധരിച്ചു നിൽക്കുന്ന സുന്ദരിയെ പോലുള്ള ഒരു ഓർക്കിഡ് പുഷ്പമുണ്ട്. കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടോ?

കോക്ലിയോട, ഒടോണ്ടോഗ്ലോസം, ഒൺസിഡിയം എന്നീ 3 ജനുസ്സുകളിൽ പെട്ട ഓർക്കിഡുകൾ വർഗ്ഗസങ്കരണം ചെയ്തുണ്ടാക്കിയ ഒരിനമാണ് വിൽസൊനാര (Wilsonara). അതിൽത്തന്നെ നിരവധി ഇനങ്ങൾ പ്രജനനം ചെയ്തെടുത്തിട്ടുമുണ്ട്.

Firecat എന്ന ഇനത്തിന്, പേര് സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്ന പോലെ ചുവപ്പും, മഞ്ഞയും, ഓറഞ്ചും നിറത്തിലുള്ള, 2-3 മാസങ്ങൾ വരെ വാടാതെ നിൽക്കുന്ന വലിയ പൂക്കുലകളാണുള്ളത്.

3 വിദളങ്ങളും 2 മേൽദളങ്ങളും ചുവപ്പുനിറത്തിലാണ്. മഞ്ഞയിൽ ചിത്രപ്പണികളുള്ള കീഴ്ദളവും (lip), പരാഗസഞ്ചിയുൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള ലൈംഗിക ഭാഗങ്ങൾ ചേരുന്ന തലയും (column head), കൂടിച്ചേർന്നാണ് കിമോണ വസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ച സുന്ദരിയെ പോലെ തോന്നിക്കുന്നത്..!!

Kingsnake, Harmony എന്നീ പേരുകളിൽ, മധ്യദളത്തിനു മാത്രം നിറവ്യത്യാസമുള്ള പലയിനങ്ങളും Firecat എന്ന വിഭാഗത്തിലുണ്ട്. ഇന്ന് വളരെയേറെ ആവശ്യക്കാരുള്ള ഒരുദ്യാന സസ്യമാണിത് കേട്ടോ..!!

Wilsonara is a hybrid genus of any hybrids of Cochlioda x Odontoglossum x Oncidium having long-lasting (2-3 months) flowers

The Harmony variety has compact Odontoglossum like pseudobulbs which produce flower spikes with 15-25 big flowers. The sepals and two upper petals are bright red to bright red-orange with a yellow lip and a rust-colored band at the top. The column head is white, with two yellow pollinia on either sides. The shape of the flower resemble the Kimono, the traditional Japanese garment and the national dress of Japan.

(According to the recent classifications, Odontoglossum and Cochlioda are almost completely merged into Oncidium and most of the Wilsonara hybrids are considered to be interspecific crosses within Oncidium itself).
