ദക്ഷിണ അമേരിക്കൻ രാജ്യങ്ങളായ വെനസ്വേലയിലെയും, കൊളംബിയയിലെയും, ഇക്വഡോറിലെയും ആൻഡീസ് (Andes) പർവത മേഖലകളിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു അധിജീവി (epiphyte) സസ്യമാണിത്.

രണ്ടാഴ്ചയോളം ആയുസ്സുള്ള, മറൂൺ നിറത്തിൽ വരകളോടു കൂടിയ വലിയ മഞ്ഞപ്പൂക്കളാണ് ഇവയ്ക്കുണ്ടാവുന്നത്. മേൽ വിദളത്തിന്റെയും (dorsal sepal), നാരു പോലിരിക്കുന്ന രണ്ടു ദളങ്ങളുടെയും അറ്റങ്ങൾ ഉരുണ്ടാണിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഇവ കണ്ടാൽ പുൽച്ചാടിയുടെ മീശ (antenna) പോലിരിക്കും. കൂടിച്ചേർന്നിരിക്കുന്ന രണ്ടു കീഴ് വിദളങ്ങൾക്ക്‌ (lateral sepals) അവയുടെ ശരീരത്തിന്റെ രൂപമാണ്.

Restrepia antennifera is a small, epiphytic orchid found at higher altitudes in the moist montane forests of Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador.

The large attractive flowers develop one at a time at the base of the leaf and may remain for 1-2 weeks. The long dorsal sepal is erect, triangular at the base and ends in a somewhat thicker club-shaped tip. They have fused lateral sepals, which are yellow or orange with contrasting maroon lengthwise stripes.

The long, hair like lateral petals also end in a thickened club-shaped tip. The long lip is ovoid and widest at its apex. It shows a reddish lengthwise stripe. The column has four pollinia. The unique shape of the flower along with the antenna like lateral petals and sepals gives the appearance of a Grasshopper.
